A Friday wedding licenses John Sellers and Wanda Dean Berkley. Panola County Commissioners Court met Monday afternoon approving routine business and then a Court of Equalization to review various properties and valuations. Doodad Davis visited Bronte and praised Ivey’s new GE store, claiming GE franchise expansion countywide. Oil activity remains high with plans for more drilling despite the McCutchen field shutdown. Funds raised for a new Robert Lee fire truck in Angelo, surpassing Tom Green County’s unit, featuring automatic valves and space for six. Jaycees supported the truck drive. courthouse grounds were sod, a tractor prepared the soil. Mrs. Green now works in the tax office. Jerry Thomason was out for a Coke after a busy spell.
The Hayrick WHO Club gathered June 5 for an all day meeting at Mrs. J. W. Mitchells. Miss Mary Pearl Bearden led a seat cover lesson and a love seat cover was completed. Attendees included Gladys Waldrop Mary Pearl Bearden Mrs Glenn Waldrop Mrs B W Waldrop Mrs J W Labenske Mrs A R Coulson and hostess plus two children. Afternoon visitors joined the gathering and a recent weenie roast was enjoyed by members and families. Next meeting set for June 19 with Mrs L C Robbins as hostess.
Sheriff records show 948 poll taxes paid this year with by precinct tallies for Robert Lee Bronte Fort Chadbourne Tennyson Divide Lance Silver Edith Wildcat Olga Walnut Lometa Hayrick and Juniper. Most payers are believed to be property holders eligible to vote in tomorrow’s $275000 courthouse bond issue election.
Bronte was defeated 10-1 by Eldorado last Sunday, dropping into second in the Concho Basin League. Ozona leads the standings at 5-0, Bronte sits 3-1 with a .750 average. Next Sunday matchups include Maverick at Bronte and Eldorado at Robert Lee.
W. W. Milikins spent last Sunday in Christoval, where locals report an enjoyable time and a pleasant outing.
