Mustang Island dispute prompts review by attorney general
The Parks and Wildlife Commission voted four to two to ask Attorney General Crawford Martin to review a May 26 ruling that a 1970 contract to purchase 3,965 acres of Mustang Island for park development is a binding obligation. The dispute has echoed from Austin to Washington and through federal courts. Texas game wardens will stop enforcing state game laws near Sabine River Mouth as Louisiana challenges ownership. Texas will honor disputed Gulf commitments while Louisiana appeals the Supreme Court decision. Inflation still threatens.
