A large July 4 crowd gathered at Lake Spence for water sports with several catches reported. Names mentioned include J. s Marina Wood and Linda Harris amid the festive scene and activity.
Odessa anglers report multiple catches including 14 lb striped bass by Red Ray and Robert Lee, 12 channel cat to 4 lbs 10 ozs by Bill and Lois Schwager, plus several 5 to 8 lb channel cats. Others include 6 lb stripers, 5 lb plus blues, and crappie totals. Local bait outfits noted heavy activity across Odessa Andrews and Lubbock areas.
The 14th Annual AH Boy Rodeo at Texas Boys Ranch is set for Saturday July 12 at 7 p.m in the Boys Ranch arena. Rodeo supper costs 6.00 per plate and serves from 5:30 p.m. In addition to the rodeo, organizers seek livestock and cash donations to fund the year’s activities and plan a US Ranch Steer Roping and Art Exhibit for October 35. Volunteers are needed to locate a large tank to be cut and welded into a permanent barbecue pit.
Sam Underwood of Austin led the Maverick Baptist Church pulpit on Sunday. Visitors included Willard Caudie and San Angelo guests Verlin Oates Harold Keele and Mag Stephenson and Alice Smith Ballinger Lois Hedges Elfreda Ariz Buster Greghorn California. Several family and garden incidents noted with rattlesnake sightings and a dog fatality. A 4th of July picnic at the Colorado River drew many locals. Vernon Johnston's death prompted an interstate tribute as Mrs Louise Stegall of Midland died in a local hospital. The Hollands plan a club meeting July 15 at their home.
