New Eastern Star Chapter To Be Instituted in Bronte
A hundred or more dignitaries and guests will attend the instituting of Bronte Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star at 7 30 p m in the Bronte School gymnasium. High officials including Ruby Enloe and Dr Russell Holt are expected, with about 45 charter members. About 150 to 200 people are anticipated for the event and refreshments afterward in the lunchroom.

Funeral Service Held Wednesday For Lynn Brandt
Funeral services for Lynn Brandt 44 were conducted at 5 p m Tuesday July 8 from Tennyson Baptist Church. Burial followed in Fairview cemetery at Bronte under direction of Clift Funeral Home. Brandt had worked at the Tom Green store in Tennyson and died in Bronte Hospital after a heart ailment. He was a native of Minnesota. His surviving brother, living in Minnesota, could not be located to be notified. Pallbearers were Barney Griffin George James Roy Baker Hamp Thomas Woodrow Howell and Jackie Rodgers.

County to start surplus food program for needy
Coke County Commissioners voted to set up a surplus food commodities program for the needy. The state approved Coke’s participation and a district supervisor from San Angelo will oversee distribution with only handling charges to the county. Registration days are July 16 17 from 9 am to 4 pm at the judge’s office with in person applications preferred.

Lightning strikes Knieerim home in thunderstorm
The Bronze fire department responded to a Saturday call at the Charlie Knie rim residence when lightning hit a meter box during a thunderstorm. No other damage occurred, though the loud sound was heard for several blocks.
