Abilene Stock Show honors Coke County 4-H and FFA members
Coke County 4 H Club and FFA members from Bronte and Robert Lee chapters placed 20 animals at the Abilene Livestock Show last week. Kathy Ensor was premier exhibitor with the Champion Southdown lamb and multiple placings. brother Tom earned four placements. Other local youths earned top spots in steers pigs and crossbred classes. numerous listed members and families competed.

Shorthorn Teams Win Consolation at Jr High Tourney
The Bronze Shorthorn boys won 31-16 over Garden City to claim the consolation title, while the girls beat Sterling City 35-28 for the trophy. Earlier, both teams split opening games with 1 point losses to Robert Lee, then posted decisive consolation wins at Robert Lee last weekend. Brian Champion led the boys with 19 points, Joy Harper top scored for the girls with 10.

Bronte Girls Lead District With Two Wins In Week
Bronte High School girls basketball extended their district 25-B lead with two victories, defeating Eula 38-34 led by Sherrie Coalson 19 points and Kim Glascock 19. Longhorns boys struggled, dropping both games to Eula and Blackwell as Nelson Coulter scored 19 in the loss to Eula.

Local Residents Injured In Wreck Near Tye
Two residents were injured in a 2 p.m. collision at the U.S. 277 and Farm Road 707 intersection near Tye. Mrs. Wayne Dunnam and her son Jim Dunnam were treated at Hendricks Hospital in Abilene. The 1973 Volkswagen van driven by Mrs. Dunnam was totaled. The truck involved was owned by Jim Ned Valley Supply of Tuscola. Dunnam attends ACC and commutes from Bronte.

Math and Science Teams Compete at Monterey High
Bronze High School sent its Math and Science teams to Monterey High School in Lubbock last Saturday for contests. In Math Billy Hamilton won first in Mathematics Jr. Division with Bobby Hamilton second. Slide Rule team finished fifth overall. Science took first in total points led by Darr en Koenie for ninth grade and Bobby Hamilton in veteran division, with Bobby Taylor fourth in novice and Billy Hamilton sixth in veteran.

Bronte FFA Sponsors Pet Vaccination Day
The Bronte FFA Chapter will sponsor a rabies vaccination day on February 14 at the Vocational Agricultural Building. Dr. John Hodges of San Angelo will administer shots from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local residents are urged to vaccinate their pets to comply with city ordinance.

Mrs Phillips 94 and son honored at birthday dinner
Mary Phillips was toasted for her 94th birthday at a Community Center dinner. Her son Walter received equal honors on his 74th birthday. Also celebrated were Claud Beavers and his wife on their 50th anniversary with relatives from San Angelo and nearby towns in attendance.

Granddaughter Dies in Accident in Guadalajara
Johnny Lynn Letman 26 of Guadalajara Mexico died January 14 in an accidental shooting. He was the Las Vegas Williams daughter of Frankie Fletcher Williams of Las Vegas Nevada and granddaughter of Georgia Horner Robert Lee Leonard Fletcher Bronte. Born February 1 1949 in Artesia New Mexico she graduated Las Vegas High School 1967 and attended UNLV as a research assistant on a Nevada History textbook. Cremation planned in Mexico City and ashes to Las Vegas. No services. prayer chain planned nationwide on February 1 in memory of Mame.
