Voters urged to register in Coke County before Jan 31

About 850 residents have registered in Coke County as of Wednesday with Jan 31 set as the registration deadline for 1969 elections. County Tax Assessor Collector O B Jacobs noted this is far below the 1587 who registered in 1968 and reminded all voters must register regardless of age since the poll tax was struck down. An agent may register a voter only if they are a spouse parent or child. A temporary deputy will be in Bronte at First National Bank on Tuesday Jan 28 to assist registrations. Taxes for 1968 are due by Jan 31 to avoid penalties, with city and school taxes payable at designated locations.
