Texans urged to pay poll tax by January 31 1966

Attorney General Waggoner Carr urged eligible Texans to secure poll tax receipts or exemption certificates before the January 31 deadline for elections between February 1966 and January 1967. He outlined four rules covering exemptions for seniors, late voters, under 21 entrants who turn 21 by election day, and special receipts for federal races.

Former Pastor to Graduate to Harlingen Post

The Rev and Mrs Vingon and their children Jeanie and Eddie have lived in Burleson for three years serving Spanish speaking migrant workers. They were appointed Home Missionaries and will move Feb 1 to Harlingen to serve as associate pastor of First Baptist Church and pastor of Los Vecinos Spanish Baptist Mission while continuing migrant worker outreach in the Rio Grande Valley.

Mrs Phillips Celebrated At 84th Birthday Dinner

Mrs Mary Phillips was honored at a dinner last Sunday for her 84th birthday at her daughter Mrs Lizzie Riker s home in Rotan Nine of her nine children attended except Edna Phillips of Santa Barbara California Others from Bronte included Ver L F McCutchen and Keith, signaling a tight family gathering in West Texas.

Eldon Mahon Announces Candidacy for U. S. Congress

Abilene attorney and former district attorney and judge Eldon Mahon announced as a Democratic candidate for Congress from the newly drawn 17th district now including Coke County. A McMurry and UT Law graduate, Mahon owns KVMC radio, chairs local Civic groups, and plans a Coke County visit to meet voters.
