Coke County Stock Show Set for Saturday in Robert Lee

The Coke County Livestock Association hosts its annual show Saturday January 19 at the show barns in Robert Lee starting at 10 p m. About 15 calves 90 sheep and 40 hogs are entered with fat stock and breeding classes. J F McCabe Jr of Robert Lee serves as president and Fred Campbell of Sterling County will judge. Prize money totals around 400 dollars plus trophies and special awards. Women Home Demonstration clubs operate a concession stand on the grounds.

Last Rites Tuesday For C. H. Conner

Funeral services for Charlie H. Conner 70 were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Bronte with Rev. Floyd Harris officiating and burial in Fairview Cemetery. He died January 12 at a daughter’s home in San Angelo. He was born January 1 1882 in Italy Texas and lived in Coke and Tom Green counties since 1916. He married Anna Belle Hudspeth and eight children survived. Four sons and three daughters, plus grandchildren and great grandchildren, attended the service. Pallbearers named were Floyd McCarty Marvin Stephenson Ira Stephenson O M Bennett Floyd Hollenbeke and Theo Brashears.

Bronte Boys Rally To 43 11 Victory Over Miles

In Bronte gym the Bronte Longhorns beat Miles 43 to 11 as J W Caudle led with 11 points for the undefeated boys. Miles’ girls lost 18 to 16 in overtime after a 16 16 tie and playoff. Jo Dell Walton and Kitty Sue Gaddy led the Bronte girls with a 9 point top performance by McCutchen.

Grade School Cagers Split With Blackwell

Grade school teams traveled to Blackwell on Monday. The Shorthorn boys beat Blackwell 8 to 6 while the girls edged to a 20 to 11 win.

Poll Tax Payments Lag in Coke County Election Countdown

The Coke County sheriff’s office reports only 702 poll taxes paid by Wednesday, about half the usual qualified voters. With January 31 the deadline, residents are urged to pay at the sheriff and tax assessor-collector office in Robert Lee to participate in the 1952 election year.

Paul Leonard Headlines Bronte High School Show

Comedian Paul Leonard appears in Bronte high school gym next Thursday January 24 at 9 am. The Bronte Band sponsors the program with Southern School Assemblies backing. Admission ranges 10 to 25 cents by grade and adult tickets at 25 cents. Leonard performs with a mystery instrument played without touching it and harmonizes bird songs.

Dimes Drive Urges More Help For March Of Dimes

Judge Rampy Addresses Lions During Citizenship Week

Runnels County Judge Rampy spoke to the Lions Club on American Citizenship Week urging broader public participation in civic life.
