March of Dimes Raises $133 in Bronte Road Blockade
The March of Dimes in Coke County collected 133.50 Saturday from a highway 158 blockade in Bronte raising the area’s total to 514.36. Fund Drive Chairman I C Oden notes 614 cars were stopped, with 225 Coke County cars and 13 from out of state. Three more fundraisers are planned this month including Mothers March and a tamale sale.

Bronte High School senior and Bronte Longhorns lineman Robert L. Moore was named to the Abilene Reporter-News All Area Class B football team for a second straight year. He plays offensive guard defensive middle guard and linebacker and led the team as a co captain. Moore also excels in track setting a district pole vault record of 11-6 and is a standout in district 6B play.

School Census Begins for Bronte District
Garland Black announced the Bronte School District will enumerate prospective students for the next term. Parents with first graders or children set to enter school will provide or request a home visit to supply needed data. eligibility requires six by Sept. 1, 1958. The census affects state funding.

Floyd Modgling Hurt In Fall From Horse
Floyd Modgling was seriously injured when thrown from a horse south of the river. He landed among rocks and sustained a crushed hip. He underwent surgery with a pin and steel plate to repair the damage.
