Funeral Rites Held for Mrs G A Best at Kickapoo Church
Funeral services for Mrs. G A Best also known as Aunt Emma were held Friday at 10 a m at Kickapoo Baptist Church Bronte with Rev R W Blackmon and Rev E L Jones officiating. Burial followed in Fairview cemetery under Clift Funeral Home. She died February 11 after a long illness at Bronte Hospital. Born Emma Jane Gilreath June 4 1872 she married G A Best May 4 1890 in Erath County. Survived by three sons three daughters two brothers two sisters 25 grandchildren 42 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were grandsons Bill Wrinkle Charles Sims Carl Best Jimmy Best R C White Harold Smith.

Baylor University backfield coach I Fry traveled to Bronte to discuss Dean Black joining Baylor. Black, son of Garland and his wife, was a four year Bronte Longhorn starter, all-district two years, and all-area end in 1957. He is nephew to Jack Black, a 1937-38 all Southwest Conference tackle at Baylor.

Landowners Endorse Forming Kickapoo Water District
A group of Kickapoo watershed landowners met at Bronte city hall Tuesday night and voiced support for forming a Water Control and Improvement District to sponsor flood control structures on the Kickapoo Creeks. The steering committee will draft a petition for the county commissioners and a potential election to legalize the district. The Coke County commissioners earlier approved a grant of 18,500 dollars for preliminary dam planning, to be released if the district is created.

The Valentine Festival raised 670 dollars with most merchandise and food donated by patrons from Bronte San Angelo and Ballinger. Proceeds, expected to net around 600 after small bills, will fund school projects. Winners in the talent show included Linda Henry first prize ten dollars and Pam Beck second prize seven fifty. A three way tie for third involved the Moore Sisters and a morrow Oglesby dancing group. PTA president C O Richards and officials thanked all helpers and promised discussion of next year’s project at the next meeting.
