A series of social calls and visits are noted across Tankersley and nearby towns. Families such as Brown, Westbrook, Goss, Hale, James, Carnelius, Hageman, Stewart, Caldwell and others are mentioned visiting relatives and friends in Dallas, Midland, San Angelo, Bronte, and New Mexico, with pastors and hosts named in several small gatherings.
Mmes Johnnie Brown and children Barney Westbrook and Eddie and Montie Little shopped Saturday in Angelo. Fred Conger and L. E. visited Ballinger on Monday. Caldwell and Barney Westbrook traveled to Bronte on Tuesday. Betty Green visited San Angelo Tuesday. Thomas Brown of Big Lake spent the week visiting relatives here. Homer and Mrs. Cornelius stopped by Bert Cornelius family Tuesday afternoon. Jessie Lee James visited George James Jr. Sunday. Barney Westbrook visited Lubbock Monday afternoon.
Porter has been reelected as superintendent of Blackwell schools and is finishing his third year in the role. Mrs Porter teaches second grade, they have two children Nell and James in Blackwell schools, and the family is active in local church and community activities.
The Fort Chadbourne Home Demonstration club met February 15 with Mrs Lee Parks as hostess. Miss Vernemma Freeman county agent gave a demonstration on inserting zippers and offered dressmaking tips. Refreshments of cherry pie and cakes were served to eleven members Miss Freeman and four children.
A large shower honoring the WM. Alexander family was held February 10 at the Beaver home. Sponsored by the Kickapoo WMU, it followed a house fire that destroyed the families' goods and clothes. About forty five guests attended and gifts were given. Punch and cookies were served. The family appreciated the generosity.
District Judge John F. Sutton ordered 1,680 cans of beer seized by liquor control men turned over to the state. Lee Roy Stark, 20, of Abilene drove the truck and pleaded guilty in county court to transporting beer in a dry county, fined $200 plus $31.40 costs. The beer will be sold by the state to legal distributors. Weekend guests included Mrs. Sterling Speake and Mr. Speake of Austin.
