Dr John R Harris has served the Bronte area for ten years guiding the hospital and clinic. A familiar figure, he began practicing medicine here on July 7 1947 after moving from Colorado City and has treated most locals for various ailments.
The Bronte Hospital grew from seven beds to 23 with two new wings by 1956. Dr Harris, native of Oklahoma and Baylor trained physician, led expansions and the John Harris Clinic formed in 1950s. His wife Mary Lewis is a nurse and their children Rex and Ann attend local schools. Plans for further expansion were paused for a rest period.
