Local business men in Bronte say this Christmas season was the best in history with strong Friday and Saturday sales. Merchants Split on Closing Monday for New Year Holiday

Bronze merchants were surveyed on Wednesday and many favored closing Monday for the New Year holiday since January 1 falls on Sunday. Most did not commit to closing and the decision appears to rest with individual merchants. L T Youngblood of First National Bank Bronte noted the bank will likely stay open due to month end duties and no firm closing plan was formed.

Fire destroyed a Henderson residence Monday in Blackwell. Mrs. Henderson and her daughter Doris were at home as flames damaged the house. Most furniture and clothing were saved. some insurance covered the structure. Mrs. Henderson works as a school lunch room cook.
