Prospector Karl Hoblitzelle No. 1 Bridges drilled southeast of Bronte across the river. Wednesday morning test recovered 60 feet of free oil and 245 feet of fluid from Cross cut Section 4,404 to 4,420 feet. Test near Ashmund and Hilliard No. 1 Bridges, flagging continued leasing in Bronte area with more tests planned.
Mr and Mrs A L Sandefur of Lubbock announce the birth of a son on December 18 at a Lubbock hospital weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces named Scott L He has a brother Brad Lynn and grandparents Rev and Mrs Wayne N Stout and Mr and Mrs A L Sanderfur of Paducah Also listed are Mr and Mrs John Gunn of Azle with a separate note of parental guidance.
Postmaster Noah Pruitt Jr says Bronte will be closed all day Dec 25 and open for a limited window Saturday Dec 26. Rural routes will run the day after Christmas. window service may be limited to mail delivery for up to two hours with no money orders or other sales.
Bronte boys and girls were beaten by Westbrook on Tuesday night ending the cage schedule for the season before Christmas. The boys head to Roscoe tournament December 31 to January 2, while the girls game ended 75 to 92 in favor of Westbrook.
The Bronte area enjoys continuing mild weather through Christmas with shopping at peak. Most firms along U S highway 277 close on Christmas Day while some close Saturday December 28. service stations and two cafes stay open. Bronte Cafe and City Cafe offer Christmas dinners to travelers and locals. The First National Bank will close Christmas Day and resume Saturday hours. Nosh Pruitt Jr posts a Saturday opening. Students finish classes Wednesday and will return Monday January 4.

Bronze Jaycees and local merchants held two Christmas draws over two Saturdays. Large crowds filled downtown as prizes were donated by merchants and a turkey shoot was held each day. Nearly all Bronte business men participated, with winners announced and gift certificates awarded. Merchants hope the event becomes an annual tradition.
Three directors for the Kickapoo Water Control and Improvement District will be elected January 12 for a two year term. Incumbents on the ballot are J A Percifull Preston Davis and Royce Fancher. Interested candidates must file petitions signed by 25 qualified voters with secretary J A Percifull. Holdover directors are F S Higginbotham and D K Glenn. Noah Pruitt Sr. is election judge. Ballots at Bronte City Hall from 8 am to 7 pm. The district oversees flood control dams on Kickapoo Creeks north and west of Bronte.
Mr and Mrs Conda Richards hosted an early Yule gathering last Sunday with Mrs Richards family present. Attending were Mr and Mrs G W Papasan and David of Goldsboro and Mr A Bobby Papasan and fa.
Mayor Reyes and Justice of the Peace J T Liley urge Bronte residents to exercise caution this Christmas season. They warn most holiday accidents result from human error and emphasize obeying traffic laws and fire safety rules to avoid injuries and fines.
The Bronze Enterprise will print Monday December 29 to allow staff a few days off. News or ads should be mailed, brought in, or called in over the weekend. Only last minute items will be accepted Monday. Publisher Ben Oglesby urged cooperation to meet the early deadline.
