Ice Storm Strikes Area Causing Power and Phone Outages
An unusual ice storm last weekend coated the region with freezing moisture from Thursday night through Saturday night. Rural residents suffered electric and telephone outages, with Bronte lacking long distance service, as ice damaged lines and poles. Service mostly restored by Monday afternoon. Douglas Ditmore wrecked a butane truck and another slid into a ditch on a road between Robert Lee and Water Valley due to ice. Trees and shrubs suffered heavy damage, while Sunday sun quickly diminished the ice.
