Cattle Outlook and Feed Additives Talk of Market Pressures
Analysts foresee modest gains in 1985 cattle production with calves from the 1964 calf crop driving the rise while slaughter totals stay near 1964. Prices are expected to stay under pressure. Ammonium chloride in ration may protect cattle from urinary calculi, adding about 1.5 cents per day per steer and 50 cents per head for a 112 to 140 day finish. The first screwworm free period in ten weeks follows control efforts, with hopes to extend eradication into Mexico this cool season.
