A farmer narrator laments Washington tax rules and simplified forms, recounting messy records from fertilizer to eggs, wind loss of records, and memory as he plans to approximate last year’s tax. He jokes about filing early December and reports he will imitate others by making last year balance.
Roy M. Hester, seaman apprentice USN and Bronte native, returned to San Diego on November 22 aboard the fire attack aircraft carrier USS Shangri La after a nine month Far East tour with the Seventh Fleet. The carrier patrolled the Formosan region with calls at Hawaii Okinawa Hong Kong the Philippine Islands and Japanese ports Yokosuka and Iwakuni.
Local residents spent time with relatives in Big Spring Midland and Crowell. Mr and Mrs Marvin Corley shared a Friday visit with the Sharp family in Big Spring. Odessa visitors included Rob Herron and family. Ellen Brock and Juanita Wrinkle visited in Midland with Billy Wrinkle. Nile Bryant and daughters returned home after visiting Crowell parents of Mrs Halecak.
Lillian Strickland presided at the Fourth Grade Club meeting on Wednesday November 24. Minutes were read and approved and a treasurer report was given. New officers for the third six weeks were elected: Mary Basquez president Joyce Buttman vice president Wayne Carlton secretary Carlotta Baker treasurer Martha Mills reporter Johnny Murtishaw parliamentarian. A Thanksgiving program featured a history of Thanksgiving poem, songs, play and readings led by students including Susan Le Martina Joyce Buttman Jackie Garrett Kay Maybew Sid Eubanks and Fidercia Cantu plus group poems and prayers. Linda Sue Geryk served as announcer.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bowden of Ballinger were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Clark, sharing a cordial visit and hospitality.
