Texas Driver Laws Expand Licenses and Inspection Rules
The new Texas driver laws raise minimum ages for commercial licenses to 18 or 17 with approved training, introduce provisional youth permits, and allow reexamination of unsafe drivers. Inspect items added include seat belts, steering, wheels, and rims with a higher $1.75 fee, effective August 28. About 5500 inspection stations statewide will enforce the changes and encourage routine safety checks.
