Fifty Years in Coke Bronte Merchant Keeney Celebrates Milestone
The Bronte community profiles Franklin Keeney who began a 50th year as a local merchant. Since arriving from Temple in 1901 he co-owned Keeney Variety Store with brother Charlie and helped shape Bronte’s early commerce. He was also longtime funeral director for 41 years and active in city, school, and Baptist Church affairs.

Women May Sit On Jury in Court Session Aug. 15
Six women have been drawn on the petit juror panel for the District Court session in Robert Lee at 10 a m on Monday August 15. Jury commission members who selected the names were Ernestine Maxwell A J Bilbo and Earl F Gienn. Women previously served on Coke County juries last spring marking a historic first.

Softball Champs Off To State Tourney
Bronte's All-Star softball team left Wednesday for the State USA tournament in Wichita Falls after winning the district title here two weeks ago. The squad, undefeated in the local tourney, faced Orange in the first round last night with results to be announced. The tournament concludes Saturday.

Funeral Services Held Saturday for William D. Webb
William D. Webb age 77 died after a long illness. Last rites were held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Tennyson Baptist Church with Rev. W. E. Chandler of San Angelo officiating. Interment followed at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo under Clift Funeral Home of Bronte. Webb, a longtime Yuma, Arizona resident, had lived with nephew C. N. Webb since last June. He was born January 12, 1878 in San Antonio. He is survived by a brother, Dave R. Webb of Devine, Texas and several nephews and nieces including C. N. Webb.

The new building will not be ready until October, and classes start September 1 and 2 with Labor Day on September 5.
