Texas to allow county fund cuts for school districts
The Texas Legislature proposes a constitutional amendment adding Section 6b to Article VII. It would let a county commissioners court reduce its county permanent school fund and distribute the funds to independent and common school districts on a per scholastic basis to ease bonded indebtedness or fund improvements. The court must retain enough to pay ad valorem taxes on existing lands or royalty interests, and state aid to districts remains unaffected. Ballots in November 1972 would present the proposal for or against.
