Pink Bollworm Threat Looms Over Texas Cotton Fields
Texas Agri culture faces two problems across the Rio Grande the wetback and the Pink Bollworm. The worm travels via cotton products or flies across borders to infest cotton. Discovered near Robinson County oil mill in 1917 it now threatens with quarantine across 194 counties. The larva feeds in bolls, matures in 10 to 15 days, and a generation cycle can produce millions of moths. Moths fly long distances up to thousands of feet, with lifespans of two to three weeks and multiple generations per season. The article warns of the scale and impact of the pest and notes a continuation next week.
