Bristol town votes down Bristol Land and Investment electric rail

In a special town meeting Bristol taxpayers rejected the Bristol Land and Investment Company petition to lay rails and operate an electric railroad along Thames and Church streets Mt Hope Metacom avenues and Walnut street by a 267 to 133 vote. The hour for voting was set after debate. advocates argued progress and connection to Providence while opponents warned of road narrowing and lost roads. Col Colt’s late resolution urged no rights be granted without taxpayer approval.
