Plans Made for Big Crowd at Police Ball Tonight
A large crowd is expected at the 9th Annual Police Ball tonight in the New Highland Casino under the Police Beneficial Association for the Police Pension Fund. Town and state officials, police chiefs, and many guests will attend with Munroe's Orchestra providing music. The event features a grand march, a special floor show, and a well decorated ballroom. over 300 tickets have been sold, and a souvenir booklet is being published by the committee led by Anthony J Ferrara with William S Baker and others handling publicity and tickets.

Youths Set Fire To Rubber At Dump
Caretaker Giacomo Marasco spied a blaze at the rubber dump and aided by police nabbed two neighborhood youths fleeing toward Perry Place. The Dreadnaughts responded to the still alarm as a large tower of black smoke rose from the pile. Walter J Pope Honored for Iwo Jima Seabee Road
Walter J Pope a Bristol Rhode Island machinist's mate second class serves with the 31st Naval Construction Battalion on Iwo Jima. The Seabees landed February 19 and built a two lane highway to Mt Suribachi in 19 days, a feat Japanese engineers failed to achieve in a decade. A Japanese major called the road the road that couldn't be built.

Brown Jr. Receives Distinguished Flying Cross
Joseph E. Brown Jr. aviation radioman first class, son of Mrs Margaret C Brown of 23 William Street, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for action in the Southwest Pacific Area.
