Tax Books Now Ready in Bristol for 1923 Assessments

The Bristol tax books for 1923 are printed and ready at the Town Clerk's office. Taxes due by October 1 with 7 percent interest after that. December 1 deadline for final collection. Major taxpayer United States Rubber Co. of New Jersey shows a total valuation of 2,000,700 and tax of 48,016.80, with 412 individual and corporate assessors listed for amounts of $100 and up.

Bristol Grammar School Honors Mr and Mrs Carter

Pupils of Bristol Grammar School hosted a reception in Reynolds School Auditorium on Wednesday afternoon for Mr Charles G Carter the new Reynolds principal. The informal program featured vocal and instrumental music chorus singing Victrola selections and a piano accompaniment by Miss Anna Sullivan. Refreshments followed with dancing as a social finale. Mr Carter a Westford Massachusetts native educated at Gorham Normal School brings four years of teaching experience including Wauregan Connecticut and Raymond N H prior to his Westford post.

Granite Slabs Arrive for Bristol Curbing on Wharf

The granite slabs for curb work on Thames Street and Fast State Street arrived in Bristol harbor aboard the three masted schooner Henrietta A Whitney from Sullivan Me. Capt Marrell reports the voyage began August 8 from Sullivan with a 40 mile diversion to Rockland Mo for a 31 day repair. Cargo totals 4300 feet of granite with lengths from 6 to 14 feet and unloading started yesterday.

Five Months' Sentence for Warren Motor Violations

Harold Place of Warren was convicted of three motor law violations and sentenced to five months in the House of Correction by the Second District Court in Fall River. He appealed with $1,000 surety. He pushed an automobile off the road at Toursset Four Corners on Sept 9 after the driver did not exit the car following two horn blasts. four occupants were injured. He received one month for operating under liquor, two months for leaving the scene of an accident, and two months for operating an automobile in a manner endangering the public.

A factory notice says the Wire Division will run an eight hour day four days a week starting October 1 while inventories are reduced. It notes possible curtailment of the Keds Division and potential hour limits in the Mechanical Department may follow.

Daylight Saving Ends In Most Cities This Week

Daylight Saving, in effect since the last Sunday in April across six cities and 21 towns, will end at 2 a m Sunday. Eight communities mostly in agricultural areas refused daylight saving. Bristol residents should set clocks back one hour tomorrow night to align with Eastern Standard Time Sunday morning.
