Ever Ready Engine and Hose Company sponsors Melodyland rehearsals for a grand musical extravaganza at the Pastime Theatre on October 19 and 20. Firemen participants show strong enthusiasm and a confident director predicts a standout production with new Broadway style dances and high energy. Tickets go on sale soon for both nights.
A Colt Memorial Ambulance drive raised over 1400 dollars, the largest sum in campaign history. Evelyn M Carter, secretary treasurer of LeBaron C Colt Ambulance Inc, reported that Friday tag day receipts exceeded last year’s 1288 dollars.
The Earl Carrolls Vanities with the original New York cast comes to Providence Opera House for the week starting October 3 with matinees Wednesday and Saturday. The production uses four baggage cars for transport and features Moran and Mack Julius Tannen Johnny Dooley Dorothy Knapp Norman Frescott William Taylor Isabelle Mohr Frances Marchant Maxine Stone and others totaling 100 performers. The engagement precedes the Boston Colonial Theatre opening with the same cast.

Bristol scouts won multiple prizes at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield Massachusetts. The merit badge booth on Painting and Handicraft placed second among 23 booths, losing to a Brooklyn Scouts display. Scouts Magee Haigh and others earned top honors in scoutcraft events while Lt Gov Case attended Governor's Day with escorts from the local council.
A Buddie Reunion gathered former Third Company C A C NCOs from Fort Rodman at the home of Mr and Mrs Harry Bullock in New Bedford Massachusetts. Chester Potter now a Boston Post reporter was honored as the guest of the gathering with reminiscences and stories of the days in 1917 18. A fine repast followed and the group agreed on a winter reunion with a committee to plan it.
Public evening schools launch on October 3 at 7 oclock in Colt Memorial High School. Evening high school offers Typewriting Stenography Book keeping Business Practice English Drawing Milinery Cooking Sewing. Americanization class teaches reading writing and spoken English for all ages.
Rosh Hashana, marking the Jewish New Year, is observed from sunset last evening to sunset tomorrow evening according to ancient tradition. Services are held at the Jewish synagogue on High street.
Colt Memorial and Westerly played to a scoreless tie in the opening scholastic football contest at Westerly Friday. Colt showed the heavier line with ten first downs to Westerly’s four, and Westerly twice reached Colt’s four-yard line but fumbled. Colt moved to Westerly’s 40 and then to the 20 before time ran out as eight-minute quarters were played.
Six Colt Memorial High School graduates enroll at Rhode Island State College Kingston for engineering courses. Names include Joseph L. Campanella Guido L. DeCristofaro Oswald R. LeClair Joseph A. Murgo Joseph G. A Riccio and Julio F Xavier Jr. The campus expansion includes a new engineering building a library auditorium and plans for a new gymnasium Iippitt Hall to be rebuilt for business administration and languages with upperclass graduates Frank Newton George L. MacDonald and Janey Carey continuing on to coursework.
Miss Louise Bettencourt of 11 Third Street was surprised at a birthday celebration in Columbia Hall Saturday night. About 200 guests from Providence Warren Barrington and Fall River attended. The event featured a musical contest between the Melrose Orchestra of Fall River and Sunnyside Ramblers Orchestra. Henry Costa of the Melrose Orchestra performed dances including the Charleston and acrobatics. Gifts included a silver bracelet from Rush City Ramblers.
Mike Sicignano's German police dog Mussolin 3d won first in novice and third in limited at the Old Colony Dog Show in Taunton. Mrs William H Buffington's French bulldog took first and second prizes. Michael J Flynn's Irish Setters earned one first, one second and three special awards.
The group will meet in Grand Army Hall tomorrow evening at 8. Plans for fall activities and drills by the degree team will be arranged. Reports from the Supreme Assembly in Chicago will be reviewed and a membership drive planned.

The Bristol County Gas and Electric Company expands its gas distribution with 3400 feet of ten inch and 1920 feet of eight inch cast iron mains. L. H. Callan Construction started work after a contract award. A new compressor will be installed near the Bristol Warren town line, and improvements aim to improve service in Warren and Bristol.
Clerk John L. Lonergan presided at yesterday morning's Fifth District Court session in Judge Hammill's absence. The case of Director of Public Aid Dewitt E. Bolster versus Kenneth McKenzie for non-support was continued to act.
The Mill team defeated the Tigers 10 to 5 on Saturday afternoon to claim the silver cup for the series between Pernata Mistseacis National and Rubber Company teams. Gray Gallagher and Andrade powered the win, while Riopel and Riopel starred for the Tigers.
