Reception to Commandant McKenzie at G A R Hall
A reception for Commandant Murdoch McKenzie of the Soldiers Home was held Friday evening at G A R Hall. Hon Ezra Dixon presided with a program including prayers, flag salute, songs, an original poem, and remarks by Rear Admiral John R Edwards and other officials. Receiving line featured Commander Robert H. Bullock and Mrs Ella Pault with Ezra Dixon and Henry J. Pickersgill.

An audience at St Michael's heard Rev Dr Hugh Birckhead of Baltimore speak on his Red Cross tour. He condemned German aims and warned Americans to unite against Germany, urging support for the war and echoing Emerson that America is God’s chance for world salvation. The event closed with “America” and the Star Spangled Banner.

Injured man stops runaway horse in Everett
Everett L B Church was injured while trying to stop a runaway delivery wagon near State and Hope streets. He fell as the horse surged forward, bruising his left arm and right hip but avoided serious injury. He was helped by Councilman Wall and Dimond, and driven home by Judge Hammill. Dr Siegel said he was not seriously hurt. The horse was captured at Thames street.

Man from Fall River Drowns After Boat Collides With Barges
Manuel Tiacido, 42, of Fall River died after a sailboat carrying 16 men hit a string of Staples Coal Company barges opposite Bristol Ferry. Tiacido and two companions jumped into the bay. the other two were rescued but Tiacido vanished. He leaves a wife and five children. The Bristol ferry crew witnessed the collision.
