In light winds at Bristol Yacht Club last weekend the Old 470 team from the Boston area clinched the Sunfish National Team Racing Championship. The Bristol team finished in fourth place as the Boston crew claimed the title.
The Penn Central Railroad returns a $14,000 down payment on 13 acres of water front Bristol land after transfer to ConRail makes sale impossible. Town officials await a state deal to purchase or lease the land while preserving a waterway right of way. The money goes back to the town’s Revenue Sharing fund.
Bristol Democrat Douglas Gablinske withdrew from the town administrator race citing a Democratic primary victory by Anthony Agatiello. The Board of Canvassers ruled his name must stay on the November ballot as he did not withdraw by the August 16 deadline.
The Harbor Commission refused a town plan to relocate its headquarters to a 45 foot house trailer. They prefer to stay in their second floor room of the old armory community center, foot of Church St. A $700 fee for bringing the trailer remains owed, and zoning prohibits trailer residences. Fire escape access and a door lock were debated as crew tensions rose between the administrator and council members.
