Bristol residents are invited to visit the Rockwell House on Hope Street for an open house hosted by the District Nursing Association and guest speaker Bristolians will see daily operations at the nursing center. The 2:30 to 5:30 event will include coffee and a meet the nurses session with Mrs. W. DeWolf Jr. as committee chair, and many association officers and board members listed as assisting or newly added to the board.
Bristol contractor Manuel Cabral sparked a false nationwide rumor that saving red cigarette-strip scraps could secure a Seeing Eye dog. Seeing Eye Inc. of Morristown New Jersey denies any dog is awarded for cash or collected items and urges direct applications to the school for eligibility.
Reynolds G. Northup Bristol highway surveyor was chosen today as chairman of the Municipal division in the 1952 Red Feather Campaign by Russell W. Southwick. Northup, a lifelong resident, has held civic roles and is active in St. Albans Lodge 6 Mt. Hope Chapter OES and St. Michael's Church Men’s Club.
Lt. Col. Lawrence Ascoli was awarded the Bronze Star Medal in Washington D C by Major General George A Horkan for his work with the Quartermaster Technical Intelligence Corps in the Korean campaign. He served in Korea from 15 September 1950 to 1 June 1952 and has a long Guard and Army service record including World War II Europe and postwar Luzon assignments.
Dorothy Mae Foster ends a 38 year career with the Bristol exchange of New England Telephone and Telegraph Company. She recalls the 1926 Seas-the Bristol explosion and the long panic, plus a humorous garden hose call amid tragedy. Foster will marry Roy Dunlop Bell of Lawrence on October 11 in St. Michael's Church.
Local historian Charles O F Thompson asks for photographs of the old Mr Hope block and nearby gas house at the Washington and Hope Streets corner torn down in 1905. He seeks copies and info for a forthcoming article and asks informants to contact the Phoenix office.
Tomorrow night in Bristol the Republican Town Committee hosts a public meeting at 8 p.m. with speakers including John R. Cioci lieutenant governor candidate and Berthelot A. LeClaire congressional hopeful from the 1st District. Also on the program are Domenic Perroni Manuel Cardoza and Norman Vermette for state legislature. Orlando J. Bisbano will introduce them.
Laura M. Drury with 30 years at New England Telephone will lead Bristol exchange as chief operator starting Sunday. She previously served 15 years as Centredale chief before dial conversion and later as East Providence assistant chief operator.
Major Albert V. Pearson announced the Flight B unit of the 9275th Volunteer Air Reserve Training Squadron has been reactivated after summer break. The Bristol based group will meet Tuesday nights at the Bristol Train of Artillery Armory on State Street with reservists from Bristol Warren and Barrington. Attendance at meetings accrues points toward promotion and retirement in the Air Force Reserve.
