Two Sockanosset boys nabbed after Bristol spree

One of two 15 year old boys tied to a week of breaks in Bristol is captured after a chase through apartments and yards. The fugitive stole a car on Wood Street, while the other boy remains at large. Police traced the pair to Bradford Street near LaFazia's Drug Store and described their burglary spree along Hope Street and Metacom Avenue, with loot recovered from a manhole.

Council Probes Dwindling Town Dump Space For Refuse

Five town council members plus Highway Surveyor inspect the dump and warn that usable dumping area is nearly exhausted. Last Day For Blue Cross Direct Enrollment In Rhode Island

Tomorrow is the final day the Blue Cross regional office on Hope Street will accept applications for direct enrollment. Executive Director Stanley H. Saunders says response has been strong and all state branch offices close after business tomorrow. Non-group enrollment is for those under 66 who are self employed unemployed retired or with 10 or fewer workers. Thirteen Rhode Island hospitals guarantee benefits including up to 31 hospital days and extensive services.

Morrisey to Lead Bristol Theater Membership Drive

Donald F Morrisey was named publicity director to head an immediate membership drive for the Bristol Community Theater. A house to house canvass will offer advance tickets to three plays upon joining. Subchairmen were appointed by Mrs Theresa Donovan including D Lloyd Smith and others for makeup furniture design lighting and more. A musical Red Mall is under consideration as part of the committee’s plans.

Local servicemen Find Small World in Nice Meeting

Staff Sgt. Fred Nenna of Bourn Street and Cpl. Vincent Troiano of 7 Coggeshall Avenue met in Nice while on duty. They enjoyed a brief reunion with Domenic Simmons of Bristol, took photos for their families, and hoped to be home by Christmas. Troiano returned to duty while Nenna explored Rome.

Navy Seaman Byrnes Aids Balikpapan Bombardment

William P. Byrnes seaman first class USNR son of Mr and Mrs Thomas H Byrnes of 68 Burton street manned a 40mm gun on a 7th Fleet motor torpedo boat. The craft wrecked an enemy shipyard and sank four sailing vessels loaded with Japs while supporting Australian landings at Balikpapan in Southeastern Borneo after 24 combat patrols in the Pacific eight months. He joined the Navy in May 1943.
