Herreshoff Yachting Legacy Grows To World Fame and Cup
Over the years the Bristol yard launched nine sailing crafts 22 to 35 feet with John B Herreshoff and Nat shaping designs. The firm expanded buying Burnside Rifle factory for a saw mill and later built steamers like Annie Morse and Seven Brothers. By 1890 the brothers gained international renown as Nat oversaw part making and shipyard work. In the 1890s they built two cat yawls for Commodore Morgan then the Gloriana and Wasp, earning a bid to build the America's Cup Defender Vigilant and Colonial.

Herreshoff Yachts and Shipyard Legacy in Bristol
The Herreshoff yard grew from yacht building to naval craft and later faced ups and downs through the 20th century. After World War II production surged for PT boats and minesweepers, then declined again until private ownership and a memorial museum by Nathanael Herreshoff and his son Sidney preserved his yacht designs and tools.
