High School Class of 1947 Plans for College Paths

A survey of the Class of 1947 graduates from BSHS shows 39 students have arranged continuing education, the highest rate among recent classes. Alumni report 29 graduates of 1946 in further study, with four named as honorary members who left for service.

Rhode Island Press Club Meeting Attracts Journalists

Rhode Island newspaper representatives gathered Saturday with 43 members and guests at Mount Hope. The tour included the Museum of Indian Relics and King Philip sites, followed by a bake by G. Elton Pierce and a business meeting led by Frederick B. Tew Jr. New members Frank Farley and A Russell Didsbury were elected, with Ruth Perkins joining as associate member.

Bristol Y M C A Board Reports Renovations and Growth

The Bristol Y M C A board heard reviews showing summer renovations to Rockwell Hall and Howe Memorial Library along with new equipment including an anonymous American shuffleboard outfit. A survey by Boston Y M C A area office was requested to advise on expanding services. a membership goal of 250 new members and renewals was set with current 291 members. Donations Boost Bristol Vets Drum and Bugle Corps Funds

The Bristol Vets Drum and Bugle Corps received donations totaling 300 dollars from Collins and Aikman Corporation 250 dollars and the Twenty One Club 50 dollars toward new instruments and uniforms The group also announced rehearsals on Bristol Common and invited townspeople to view the new equipment while aiming to raise additional funds prior to the 1947 State Championship on September 28 at Sturbridge Fairgrounds Massachusetts.

Glidden Tour to Include Bristol Visit in September

More than 100 antique automobiles will assemble in Hartford and travel a 500 mile route through New England to Newport. Bristol will be passed at about 5 p m on September 23 as the Glidden Tour, not a race, showcases prewar cars in a final Newport banquet with prizes for oldest car and farthest travelled.

The Bristol Philatelic Society held its season opener at Holmes House with A A Edmonds presiding in place of Rev. Anthony R Parshley. A stamp quiz is planned for the October 9 meeting. Leonard Sanford was named chairman of a committee to map activities for the rest of the year.

Commander Raymond Makowsky of Battery C R I N G says combat film showings at the state armory on Church Street are halted as of today. Films recalled to Providence for checking and repair, with screening to resume Tuesday October 7 1947.

The Holy Name Society of St Marys Church will meet in the auditorium after the Novena services Tuesday evening. Members will discuss reorganizing the bowling league set to begin the first Monday in October and other season plans. All members are urged to attend.
