Byfield School Dedication in 1873 Town Hall
The dedicatory exercises for the new Byfield School building were held in the town hall. A life size portrait of Col. Nathaniel Byfield was unveiled, with remarks on his role in the town’s founding and education funding. The portrait, by Rhode Island artist Miss Jane Stuart, links past and future education in the community.
