Legion Post Backs Outlawing Communist Party from Ballot

Kearney Post No 6 American Legion approves a resolution urging all Posts to pass a National mandate to outlaw the Communist Party from the state ballot. New officers named include Elmer McNamara as commander and Joseph Bruno as senior vice commander. The meeting covered committees, Boy Scout support, Americanization efforts, and plans for a Bristol Boy Scouts Drum Corps trip to Boston.

St Marys Parochial School Opened With 215 Pupils

St Marys School opened the new year with about 215 pupils across eight grades. Sister Pauline departed as former Principal to lead St Michael's Convent in Providence. Sister Monica became the new Superior and Principal, with Sisters Laurentine Dolorita Raphael Ernestine Cyrilla Monica and Marita teaching the eight grades.

Garden Club Luncheon Held At Mrs Carrs Home

The Bristol Garden Club hosted a smorgasbord luncheon at Mrs Arthur H Carr s home Fishhawk on Metacom Avenue. Committee members included Mrs Ralph F Kinder Mrs R F Haffenreffer and Miss Mabel M Salisbury. After lunch games on horticultural identification followed with Mrs Samuel C Wardwell and Mrs Wesley A Armstrong leading.

Parshley Speaks On Ocra Coko Island At Taft Club

Rev A R Parshley spoke to the Taft School Club about Ocra Coke Island off North Carolina where descendants live in a utopian society with no police or jails and a single schoolteacher as official. Mrs Nathanael Herreshoff Jr sang soprano solos. refreshments were served by Mrs Eldina Beals and Mrs Earl P Mathews on a meeting presided by Mrs Albert Alder.

Scouts Seek Cars for Springfield and Boston Trips

The Bristol Boy Scout Bugle and Drum Corps plans to attend three national competitions this month and needs private cars for transport to Springfield's Eastern States Exposition next Wednesday and to Boston's American Legion Convention on September 23 and 24. A two day trip to the World's Fair on September 2 requires bus travel and overnight stays. funding is also sought. Donations of cars or finances may be offered through Drum Corps Committee members Virgil Arruda, Frank O Rene, Joseph Arouca, Domenick Ruggiero, William F Head, and George R Fish.
