Fire causes basement blaze at Makowsky building
Firefighters kept the basement fire at the Makowsky building on Hope street confined to a southwest corner. One hydrant man Idrentaht Frdifit Trask suffered a deep cut from flying glass and required three stitches. Damage was estimated above 15000 with smoke and water losses. Firemen used four hose lines as gas masks and smoke protectors were employed for the first time in years. The blaze was blamed on spontaneous combustion in rubbish in the cellar rear of the store.
