Town officials discussed speeding by automobilists in the town streets and the need for police to monitor sections with stopwatches. The Bristol Mothers Club Executive Committee adopted a resolution urging the council to suppress crapshooting in public places as a harmful example to children.
The council empowered President Edward E. Bunn to hire extra police support to stop scrap shooting. David Walker aided in breaking up games and pledges were planned for children against the practice. The town halted new victualing licenses this year and authorized $5000 for expenses. John Hart was appointed special constable for East Burial Ground.
U S Commissioner Goodspeed in New Bedford set trial for September 23 with bail at five thousand dollars. Elder Mansy and his son Eugenes Mansy linked to a nationwide counterfeit scheme. the son held in New Bedford jail on ten thousand bail, under police surveillance in Fall River and Swansea. The arrests may expose a larger counterfeit gang operating in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Manuel Brum pleads not guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon against Joseph Mello. Case continued for two weeks. Brum released on $500 index bond. Manuel Cardoza arraigned on cruelty to a horse charge. pleads not guilty and posts $200 bail each. cases set for trial in Fifth District Court next Monday.
