Bristol Town Council Faces Bridge Bid Overruns
At Tuesday evening session the Bristol Town Council heard three bids for two new bridges on Richmond Street and Wood Street over Tanyard Brook, all exceeding 2000 dollars per bridge, prompting deferral of action beyond the existing 900 and 1200 dollar appropriations. Senate Coggeshall urged reconsideration of a victualling license for Wood and Constitution streets, but Chief of Police recommendation led to denial. Judge Hammill pressed for water mains extension on Mount Hope Avenue, questioning the 14 percent return sought by the water company. Several residents were approved to lay concrete sidewalks, while engineer Jewell was instructed to confer with the State Engineer on a drain at Hope and Wood streets. A marriage license was granted to Manuel Sardinha, and petitions on licenses and signs were considered.
