Out of town strikers try to disrupt Bristol mill work

A small group of agitators from Pawtucket and Esmond attempted peaceful picketing at the Collins & Aikman Cranston mill in Bristol. Police dispersed the line, preventing disruption as state and local officers kept watch overnight, with no violence and workers reporting for 3 o'clock shifts.

Playoff Tie Planned by Local Lodges

Plans are underway among Burnside Lodge of the Knights of Pythias United Brothers Lodge of Riverside and Riverside KoP to resolve a three cornered tie in the in­door baseball league. Frank Pearse captain of Burnside lodge team has called a practice session for next Tuesday night.

Kearney Auxiliary Elects Mrs Bullock President

The Kearney Unit American Legion Auxiliary elected Mrs Harry Bullock as president succeeding her sister in law Miss E Doris Bullock. Other officers include Miss Mary Peters senior vice president and Mrs Anne Seymour junior vice president. The group planned to attend the department convention in Westerly and held a public bingo after the meeting drawing about 50 attendees. The junior auxiliary approved an outing and frankfurter roast for September on Mt Hope Bay shore and a Halloween party in October.

Auto collision on Hope Street near Walley Street

Benjamin Kordes Muller and Warren Lamastro collided at 7 30 last night on Hope Street near Walley Street in this town. Both automobiles sustained light damage and were driven from the scene. Virginia Lamastro of 62 Oliver Street witnessed the incident.

Piccolo Soloist to Feature BTA Band Concert Sunday

Piccolo soloist Carleton Hindle from Fall River headlines the Bristol Train of Artillery Band open-air concert at Colt Memorial High School Sunday evening. Hindle is a renowned soloist with extensive concert credentials praised by critics. Sousa’s Waltonia March and Hindle’s trombone solo are on the program along with conductor Mrs. M Theresa Donovan. Tax Assessors Replat Town and Upgrade Card Index System

Town Council approves continuing replatting and updating the card index system funded by an old balance of 253 552. Plans include highway reconstruction on Hope Street and multiple ERA projects totaling about 23 000 man hours. A major water-extension project to Bristol Narrows lingers awaiting reimbursement. otherwise, funds target street drainage, gutter work, and sewer basins with under 1600 in materials costs.

Committee Signs Contract For New Fire Truck

The purchasing committee signed a contract with Ahren's-Fox Company for a 1000 gallon triple combination pumper after all but one member approved. Fire Chief Robert J. Anderson abstained. The panel also approved 800 feet of hose at 110 dollars per foot and three nozzles at 30 dollars each. The truck costs 12,675 dollars with 5 percent discount for 30 day payment. After expenses a balance of 7.15 dollars remains from the 13,000 dollar town appropriation.
