Ensign Arthur W. Howe II, previously reported missing in action, has been released from a Japanese prison camp and evacuated on the Reeves. He is the son of Comdr. and Mrs. Arthur W. Howe of Metacom avenue, with relatives in town expressing joy at his release. He was shot down after a strike on Cebu and held at Manila and Ofuna before detention in Tokyo Bay area camps. He described brutal beatings, deaths from starvation, and stolen Red Cross supplies during internment.

Horses from Bristol stables dominated the first Swansea horse show sponsored by American Legion Post No. 303 at Morris Settes Farm before a crowd of about 3500. Flag Dedicated To Men And Women Of Beach Terrace
The Beach Terrace Triangle flag dedication honored local World War II veterans with a 3:30 dedication at the Terrace by the Beach Terrace Improvement Association. D M Weston donated the flag and pole, Sidney Kullberg accepted for the association, and 180 residents attended. A 4 to 6 pm sports program followed, plus a chowder supper and bazaar, with Rev D B Lothrop presiding and a color guard raising the flag. Mary Remington led the singing of The Star Spangled Banner.

Report on Maxim fire truck inspection in Middleboro
Fire Truck Purchasing Committee visited the Maxim Motor Company in Middleboro Massachusetts Friday evening to inspect motorized apparatus. The committee will deliver its report at Thursday’s meeting after favoring the Maxim bid when bids were opened for a new truck for Defiance Fire Company. Fire Commissioner Henry F. Lieutenant Bullock Aids Troop Redeployment in France
First Lieutenant Joseph F Bullock of Bristol Rhode Island formerly with the 691st Tank Destroyer Battalion is at Camp Norfolk of the Assembly Area Command near Chalons France aiding redeployment efforts. Commissioned November 1942 he arrived overseas August 1944 and served as communications officer in charge of all telephone and radio equipment.

Two Bristol men Louis Sylvia and George W Almeida served on the 45,000 ton battleship Missouri in Tokyo Bay during the signing of the final Japanese surrender. Welcome Home Committee May Be Named Tonight

Driver Uninjured as Truck Hits Pole and Tree
Frank Terra of Chestnut street lost control early Sunday and crashed a truck into a Narragansett Electric Company pole near the Bristol Garage, the vehicle badly damaged with the top rear section sheared off by the pole. Pfc Mancini Receives Silver Star for Saarlautern Rescue
Pfc Alphonse Mancini of Company C 748th Tank Battalion earned the Silver Star for single handedly neutralizing a German machine gun nest and evacuating a wounded infantryman. He also received the Bronze Star for the daring evacuation of a wounded officer under heavy fire near Saarlautern Germany. Mancini has served since November 1943 and resides with his wife Eleanor at 12 Carter Street Hudson Mass.
