The Doric Club presented Step This Way at Guiteras Memorial School in a lively production directed by Dorothy Rowland. Despite a small crowd, critics praised the snappy songs, fast dialogue, and strong ensemble performances, with repeat show promised tonight.
The Men's Union of the First Congregational Church held Past President's Night at the Guneral House on Tuesday. Carmine J. Massano spoke on life in Washington DC while Enoch Marsden sang with piano accompaniment. Emergent presidents were honored with mementoes, and refreshments followed the social hour.
The Congressional Club hosts its first fall social on Wednesday October 27 at the Gutteras House. Rhode Island rodeo historian John W. Haley will be guest speaker and a musical program is planned.
The Guiteras Athletic Field dedication is set for Armistice Day with Colt Memorial and Warren High meeting in football. A flag raising and memorial plaque unveiling will occur at 1:30 PM outside the field gate as part of the Armistice Day program.
Town Council debated authorizing seizure of dogs without identification tags after dog officer Denis G Ferreira urged the measure. The council advised consulting Town Solicitor Joseph A. Hammill to revise an ordinance granting such authority.
Twenty new members joined the Bristol County True Sportsmen's Association at Lincoln Hall boosting total to over 150 making it the largest in the state. Badges granting hunting access on 700 acres posted in Bristol County were distributed by President Louis Santo. A forthcoming Sunday meeting in Lincoln Hall will feature Chief Anthony Jo Terrara as principal speaker with invited guests Senator Thomas Byrnes and Representatives Pasquale Pagnano and John Magee.
Bristol post office workers replaced a dead shrubbery planted by the Bristol Garden Club after council criticism. Two large evergreen plants were installed in front of the frost office, with possible future dedication and festive decorations discussed as a way to symbolize peace and goodwill.
Rhode Island Odd Fellows and Rebekahs welcome Grand Sire Thomas G. Andrews today with conferences in Providence Newport and Cranston. He will tour Newport, attend a luncheon, reception, supper, and mass meeting at the church before continuing events in Providence. Andrews, born in Orangeburg South Carolina, built a legal career in Oklahoma and served as Supreme Court justice before entering the order leadership.
Colt Memorial hosts Barrington Bligh at Gulleras Veblels Field tomorrow at 2:30 pm in a high profile Class C football clash. Both undefeated contenders, with Barrington coached by Tom Collins and Anthony Martin, and supported by a 35 piece band directed by Walter Angus. Local authorities shifted the venue to boost gate receipts and the crowd is expected to exceed recent totals.
Rev. Anthony R. Parshley rector of St Michael's Church returned home yesterday from Cincinnati where he served as a Rhode Island delegate at the general convention of the Episcopal Church He will describe the proceedings at Sunday morning services.
Dr Harold DeWolf and his wife returned from a four month Europe trip and visited the office to renew a subscription. He suggested using this column to share experiences though he was unsure if his remarks would appear in print.
Travelers in foreign countries naturally form impressions of people and places. They are only impressions and may be right or wrong. As the Doctor often said while talking, Now of course that's only my personal opinion. That's the way I happened to see it.
Mrs DeWolf and her husband traveled to Europe primarily to be near their daughter Claudia who studies at Trinity College Dublin for a Doctorate in Spanish. Claudia would have pursued her degree in Madrid but for recent travel restrictions. Trinity College is cited as highly equipped to offer Spanish training outside of Spain.
