80 Per Cent Returns Reed In Bristol Red Feather Drive

Partial 1950 Red Feather drive results show Bristol reaching 80 percent of its $18,250 goal. Total collected to date is $14,556.16 from a house to house canvass by about 200 workers, with a one day Sunday district effort netting $200 more than last year. State observers include Car Warmington and Herve S. Robert.

Testimonial Planned For Vin Santo

Plans are underway to honor Vincent J Santo coach of the Kearney Post baseball team which reached the national finals in the American Legion playoffs with a testimonial dinner. A Bristol led committee started planning last Sunday to recognize Santo for his role in forming sponsors and guiding the team from its early days to national prominence. The event seeks community support including from Bristol to create a memorable tribute for Santo's coaching and efforts.

Vets Council to Meet With Memorial Committee in Bristol

The Bristol United Veterans Council will meet the World War II Veterans Memorial Committee on Wednesday evening October 18 at 8 p m at the Kearney Post American Legion Home to discuss action toward erecting a town memorial. A nine member memorial committee was approved at the March 1949 Financial Town Meeting, and later offered prizes to architectural firms for the best municipal building Red Feather Day October 15.

About 150 members are expected at the First Congregational Church in Bristol for the Rhode Island Congregational Women fall meeting on Thursday October 19. De Leo Named National Senior Vice Commander at RI Italian American Veterans

Michael A. De Leo was elected national Senior Vice Commander of the Italian American World War Veterans of the United States at the national convention in Boston. He had already served as Rhode Island state department commander and was unopposed on the convention slate. John Neve of Syracuse won national commander as the program ran from Columbus Day to Sunday afternoon. Governor John O. Pastore attended memorial exercises Friday as De Leo opened proceedings broadcast on WEAN Providence and WNAC Boston.
