Travers Wins Renewal In 6-1 School Panel Vote

The School Committee reversed a March 31 vote to renew Superintendent Edward P Travers contract, renewing it until July 1, 1977 in a 6-1 decision. Chairman Thomas A Barr cast the lone dissent, maintaining no salary increase or positive change justified given Travers back after absence and limited interaction with the panel.

GOP seeks probe of Alegria over building code issues

Town Council members faced calls from Republican candidates to investigate chairman Richard Alegria a contractor for alleged building code violations. The council declined to act noting the topic was not on the agenda. Builder Alegria left early after a clash with candidate John Vittoria who sought to read building inspector correspondence into records. Murgia the inspector cited unpermitted projects and Terra Bara fire code violations, alleging conflicts between Alegria’s duties as mayor and as council president.
