Congressman Aime J. Forand spoke at the Rotary Club to explain how a bill moves from presentation to passage or defeat. He defended the 75th Congress as not a do nothing session and cited figures showing favorable bill passage versus recent years.
Chief Anthony Ferrara was chosen president of the Bristol Police Beneficial Association at a 21-7 meeting on Wednesday evening. Sergeant William T. Casky became secretary and the group formed an association with constitution and by laws to be approved at a future meeting. The final report of the first annual ball will disclose funds raised and spent, and thanks were offered to contributors.
Preliminary plans for a social to be held in the later part of the month were discussed at a bingo committee meeting of the Italo American Club. The committee, chaired by Orlando Bisbano, includes Carla Bisbano Alfonse DeFelice Tous Castriotta Michael Pasquared James Salzano Fortunato Caruso and Jeremiah Romano.
Italo American Club hosts its third annual Columbus Ball at Bristol Casino on Hope Street tonight. A large crowd is expected from advance ticket sales with notable attendees invited and Casino Orchestra to provide the music.
John W Haley Rhode Island Historian presented a Fathers Night program at Taft School Club recounting Roger Williams life and Rhode Island founding. He urged stronger public memory of Williams ethics and contrasted history as factual learning with entertainment. Music by St Michael’s Church quartet followed. refreshments served, attendance strong.
Music lovers will attend a concert Friday in Guiteras school auditorium with the State Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dr Wassili Leps. The program is funded by the State Department of Education from a State Legislature appropriation and features musicians tied to the Providence Symphony. An enthusiastic crowd attended a prior performance.
Dr Marion A Gleason will run monthly mothers classes in Bristol sponsored by the Bristol District Nursing Association. Starting Monday Oct 18 at 2 pm at Rockwell House, the free educational program aims to emphasize early and regular physician consultation for expectant mothers. A feature will be motion pictures.
Goldenrod Troop 1 met at the Scout House yesterday afternoon. Patrols were named Trevol, Leah Fiore leading Saratoga Dorothy Bruno leading Scarlet Tanager Helen Bruno leading Ranger Mary Pinch. The program included games and singing.
A 31 member committee led by Mrs Mary J Condon will arrange Armistice Day ceremonies at Guneral Athletic Field. The Colt football team schedules a key clash with Warren while the first events include Bristol and Warren baseball, with new steel frame bleachers to be used at the Cott Portsmouth Priory game.
A housewarming party is set for November Sth during Girl Scout Week to officially open the new Scout House, formerly Burton School. Council plans include a Mount Hope Leaders' Association event, refreshments by Mrs J Floyd Huestis, and an invitation to regional leaders from East Providence, Rumford, Barrington, Riverside, Warren, Newport and the host town. A rummage sale is also announced for Oct 22 in the Levy Block.
A collision occurred shortly after 6 on Wednesday evening on Hope Street near the Bristol Motors Sales lot. Hortense Saks, 23, of 5 8 West 86th Street New York City collided with Manuel Borges, 38, of 70 Franklin Street this town. Borges backed into the highway while his car registered to Joseph Travers of 5 Usher Avenue this town. No injuries were reported by Patrolman Frederick W. Serbst.
The musical comedy Step This Way will be staged Oct 2 and 3 by the Dorit Club of this town with rehearsals nightly. Principal cast includes Jean Boniface Marjorie McCann Dot Crane and more. moon over Pumpkinville and other acts listed with a large ensemble and accompanists.
