Minister Pilot Leads First Lap In Continental Flight Race
Lieut Belvin W Maynard won the first leg of the double transcontinental airplane reliability race covering 2701 miles in 24 hours 58 minutes and 554 seconds of actual flight time landing in San Francisco at 1 12 07 PM Pacific time. Lieut E C Kiel finished eastbound at 6 35 10 PM Eastern time followed 20 seconds later by Maj Carl Spatz who reached New York first but made an erroneous landing. Maynard started from Mineola NY last Wednesday at 9 25 56 AM Eastern time and took nearly seven hours longer than three days to complete due to no-fly periods and radiator trouble at Cheyenne. Maynard, a Baptist minister, adds a new meaning to sky pilot.

Government to tax farm cider sales at ten percent
The government will tax cider sold by farmers at ten percent. A ruling by W H Riordan, New York internal revenue collector, classifies cider sellers as soft drink vendors and requires the tax. If a farmer brings apples to a cider mill and requests the product, he is taxed, not the mill owner. Almeida at Rhode Island Hospital reflects a birth on Oct 11 1919 and Peterson death notices for Oct 11.
