Scrap drive nets 201 tons of metal in Bristol

Townspeople rally for a Sunday scrap collection led by the Salvage Committee chair Tan M Walker. About 180 volunteers loaded 49 trucks across Mount Hope and Thames streets, with schoolchildren and Girl Mariners joining, as Bristol pledges more heavy pieces and next donations.

Girl Scouts Plan Victory Fund Campaign in Bristol

Bristol Girl Scouts announce the nationwide Victory Fund drive running from October 1 through Thanksgiving Day. Led by Mrs Earl Stur devant the campaign aims to convert War Savings Stamps into War Bonds to aid children affected by the war with Treasury approval. Proto Completes Basic Naval Training at Newport

Ralph J Proto 17 of 12 Coggeshall Street finished his basic Naval training at the Naval Training Station Newport Rhode Island. He will be assigned to a Navy trade school shore base or fleet ship for duty. His brother Cosmo serves in the US Army and Ralph underwent seamanship drills and calisthenics to prepare for duty at sea or ashore.

Priority Refused For Fire-Proof Vault Construction

War Production Board will not grant a priority rating for a fire proof vault at the Burnside Lee Building. John W Church Town Clerk was informed that materials for town records storage and crowding relief cannot be prioritized now.
