William McKenzie aged 17 and Frank Dion aged 16 were arrested at 2 15 am on Constitution Street after a burglary at Daniel D Amaral’s store on Thames Street. A burlap bag containing canned foods cigarettes and ketchup was found. Bail set at 1000 each. they face district court Monday.

Chief Police Chief Narrowly Escapes Auto Crash
East Providence chief R J Kavanaugh had a close call yesterday forenoon when his car was struck by a large GM C truck at Warren Avenue and Ninth Street. Both vehicles suffered damage and no serious injuries were reported. The truck was driven by George Myra of East Providence.

Stanzione Charged After Bristol Break-In
Luigi Stanzione of 222 State Street was struck with an iron vise and allegedly assaulted during an altercation at Lillian Brackett’s tenement on Thames and Oliver streets. Stanzione was taken to St Joseph’s Hospital and later arrested for breaking and entering in the night. Bail was set at 1000 and he posted bond for District Court.

Fire Strikes Four Tenement House on Wood Street
A blaze in the four tenement house at 360 Wood Street north of State Street drove four families of twenty people from the building. Alarm sounded at 10 30 p m District No 23 firemen worked to extinguish the fire with partitions cut away to reach the flames. A bystander, William Simmons of the Dreadnaught Company, suffered a head cut from a falling blind. Dr A F D Angeli treated him. Owner is Edward J Quirk and the cause was reported as a defective chimney.

Battery C 243d C. A. (H. D.) inaugurated its new rifle range at the State Armory on Oct 3 with a four-team, three-man match. Bristol Train of Artillery won a close contest over 3rd Company Veterans of Rhode Island. both totaled 284, but the Veterans had a noncounting 5 and 4, per National Rifle Match rules.

The New England Telephone and Telegraph Company executive committee authorized 193 481 dollars for burying 47500 feet of cable and laying 16200 feet of conduit with six to twelve duct paths and 29 man holes between Bristol and Newport. The project extends toll facilities to two open wire lines and supports an all cable toll line from Providence to Newport, with minor work between Barnesville and Warren to meet 1931 service needs.
