Fire Department Plans for Buildings Inspection

Fire officials discuss a new uniform inspection procedure for all building types under the fire prevention code. The plan, to begin January 1, 1948, requires yearly permits for flammable liquids and calls for semi annual inspections, with private property inspection based on cooperation in closely built up areas.

Combat Films To Be Shown This Evening At Armory

Uncensored combat films resume this evening at the State Armory foot of Church Street. Bristol Woman Endows George Franklin Stanton Fund Scholarship

The Bristol Probate Court allowed the will of Miss Emma B. Stanton detailing a $2,000 principal scholarship for Bristol Senior High School graduates and annual income awarded by the principal and department heads. The trust adds income to principal if no award is made. Miss Stanton previously served as Pembroke College registrar.

Night School Opens With 108 Enrolled In Bristol

The 1947 Bristol Evening School opened with 108 pupils registered and eight courses listed. Miss Anne D. Sisson announced the full term runs through December and emphasized attendance as key to the program's success. Classes meet Monday and Tuesday at Andrews Memorial School with courses in typing shorthand woodworking bookkeeping clothing and more including a three year commercial diploma for non high school graduates.

Vets Drum Corps Plays at Dedication in Providence

The Bristol Vets Drum and Bugle Corps performed Sunday afternoon at the dedication of a memorial square honoring John F. Allard a World War II casualty. The event at Felix Jewett and Valley Streets Providence was sponsored by the Y D Post No 272 VFW with What Cheer Post American Legion. The corps will also play at a plaque dedication for WWII veterans and join the Red Feather parade in Providence on Sunday Oct 19.

Bristol boat builder Herb Newman, vice president of Prudence Island Navigation Company, plans to supervise changes to the yacht Haida in California. He described the maiden voyage to the new owner through a Caribbean hurricane when the vessel rode the fringe of the storm for three days aboard the Haida.
