State Conventions Nominate Play for Senator and Congressmen

Democratic and Republican conventions in Elks Auditorium nominated state officers with United States Senator as the main contest. Governor Flynn secured the Senate seat on the second ballot after initial tallies showed Flynn 79 and Gainer 68, with Green and O'Shaunessey also in the race.

Metcalf Nominated for U S Senate and Pothier Wins Governor

Jesse H Metcalf was nominated by acclamation at Infantry Hall for the U S Senate to fill the unexpired term of the late Colt and the next six year term. Aram J Pothier won the governorship on the first ballot in a three cornered contest with 248 votes, Davis of Westerly 24, Kennedy of Woonsocket 6. The slate includes Nathaniel W Smith for Lieutenant Governor Ernest L Sprague for Secretary of State Richard W Jennings for General Treasurer Charles P Siston for Attorney General.

Two Fires Tuesday Night in City Tenement and Car

A chimney blaze in a three tenement house owned by Mrs Rebecca Baron on Catherine Street caused slight damage after 7 30 PM. The Hydraulion engine and Hose Company also put out a car fire owned by Francesco Bisignano on High Street near Bourn Street with minimal damage.

Bristol County Clergy Plan Lecture Course This Fall

At the Bristol County Clergy meeting in the State Street MFE Church Rev Charles W Martin presiding it was voted to conduct a lecture course starting in November and featuring a list of prominent speakers. Before the business session the Ladies Aid Society served a supper to the attending clergy.

Store Entered at Loms Mo Lasks Corner

A robbery at the variety store of Loms Mo Lasks, at State and Thames streets, involved breaking a Thames street window and stealing cigars cigarettes and zone tickets used on Consolidated trains. Patrolman Demers found the break at 10 45. Chief Kelley suspects the work of the boss.

Party Caucuses Set for Next Week at Artillery Armory

Both parties plan caucuses in the Artillery Armory. The Democratic meeting is next Thursday at 7 30 p m to nominate a Senator two Representatives elect a Town Committee and two State Central Committee members. The Republican caucus is Friday at 7 30 p m to nominate a Senator and two Representatives.
