Fire damages Brooks properties on Hope Street
Last evening a fire damaged the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company building at 291 Hope Street and an adjacent dwelling. George H and Helena A Brooks own both properties. An alarm from District No 18 sent three companies to the scene around 5:20. Fire officials say Ralph Kinder and wife started the blaze, with hoses laid to control it.

Pole topples in yard injuring two men and children
Gabriel Cioffi and Stephen Mello of 24 Mt. Hope Avenue narrowly escaped serious injury when two 25 foot clothes poles collapsed into a yard where children played. The poles were rotten at the base and Mr. Mello suffered a cut ear and bruises to his shoulder and back. Dr. A. M. Merriman attended him.
