Police Ball Raises Nearly 1800 for Bristol Fund

The Bristol Police Beneficial Association collected nearly 1800 at the second annual ball Friday night at the Bristol Casino, with attendance of about 450 including state and town officials. The event, alongside a 500 town appropriation and private donations, boosts the pension fund to over 4200 since its inception. The program featured a grand march led by J Demers and guests such as District Attorney William Crossley, Attorney Lucien Capone, and Chief Anthony Ferrara, plus a floor show by professional entertainers and music by Irving Rosen and his orchestra.

Highway Surveyor to Receive Medal at Lodge Night

The 29 year old highway surveyor Holmes will receive a medal at the Knights of Pythias veteran night observance tonight at K of P Hall Hope Street. Past Supreme Representative John Hackett will present the award with attendees including Challis W. Smith and other Rhode Island lodge members. Bertram W Bullock Sr. leads the organizing committee with George F E Luther and James W Nelle assisting.

Guidas Mark Wedding Anniversary Celebration

Mrs and Mrs Antonio Guida marked 25 years of marriage with a Sunday dinner at their Bristol home 246 State Street. They were wed November 27 1913 in Providence Rhode Island and have four children. Mr Guida active in politics and fraternal groups including the Democratic Town Committee and Princess Elena Lodge Sons of Italy.

Providence Teacher Gives Roman Walk Lecture at PTA Meeting

Albert DiPippo a Providence Public Schools teacher will present an illustrated lecture Roman Walk at the Bristol PTA meeting this Thursday at 8 PM in Reynolds School auditorium. DiPippo an Italian American has studied at Columbia Perugia and Rome and traveled in Egypt and Palestine.

Motorists urged to drive carefully at coasting spots

Police Chief Anthony J. Ferrara urged motorists to slow near coasting areas as children practice sliding. He cited a town ordinance but said he would not police children from coasting, stressing parent and driver cooperation and warning drivers to use caution on Bay View avenue Mount Hope avenue Constitution Street State Street and John Street around Hope Thames streets.

Mr Arnold Brogden head of the Industrial Relations department of the Providence branch of US Rubber Products spoke at the Mens Union meeting in Guneras House. He outlined the department functions including safety health training and employee policies plus retirement savings and group insurance. He noted seasonal Providence work but stressed keeping older workers year round and applying seniority rules. Clifford Wilson of Warren introduced the speaker.

The Kearney American Legion post launches its 13th annual drive for Christmas baskets for Bristol’s needy with Bertram W. Wall as chair. Last year 150 baskets were distributed. names of eligible recipients should be submitted by December 15 to avoid duplicates, with aid from churches welfare groups and local officials.

Bristol section forms Italian War Veterans group in Wood Street

A Bristol unit of the Federation of the Italian War Veterans Association organized at Academy Hall, Wood Street. Giuseppe Palma named first president with officers Brangisey Vena view presidenc. Larkicho secretary. Giuseppe Marno financial secretary. Salvatore Ferrara treasurer. Pietro Ponticello and Antonio Nastri auditors. Installation by Capt Angelo Martella. dinner followed. State Street M E Church Ends 84 Years of Service

The State Street M E Church ends 84 years of uninterrupted worship after hurricane damage. Services continue in St Michaels parish house with a final disbanding vote at a Saturday conference. The Boys Club and Epworth League plan to affiliate or join nearby churches, while Ladies Aid prepares formal steps. The church was founded in 1792. the razed building dated to 1857.
