RCA and United Air Lines jointly broadcast television from New York to a plane 200 miles away over Washington D C. The 21 600 foot flight carried Major General Delos C Emmons and others as they viewed live scenes and news reels on a televisor set confirming line of sight and the earth curvature challenge in early TV experiments. David Sarnoff and W 4 Pettarean witnessed the historic moment marking RCA's twentieth anniversary.

The American Red Cross aided 136000 sufferers of 157 disasters in the fiscal year ended June 80. Operations spanned 43 states and Alaska with expenditures totaling 2276109. Since 1881 the organization has aided victims of 2496 disasters worldwide, expending 143000000 for rescue, food, shelter, medical care and rehabilitation.
